Bill Bishop

William 'Bill' Bishop was born on 10th May 1920. He joined the Oxford and Bucks light infantry circa 1939, then later volunteered for the newly forming parachute regiment and was the first soldier in his home area to gain and wear the famous red beret.
It is believed that he was at Bulford amongst other camps but did not complete his jump training for one reason or another, so he became a radio operator in the 6th airborne glider section.
He crash landed at the Pegasus bridge in the 2nd glider to land.
It is believed that he was a lance corporal and saw many theatres of action including France, Market Garden, Germany and after the war in Palestine and Egypt.
Did you know Ronald Bishop?

I`ve received emails from people asking if I could help with providing information about their relatives who fought in WW2.
This section is for them, to help relatives to find those missing links in the story of their families.
Can you add any information to the background of these pictures?

Tracing a relative's service record
There are several ways that as a relative you can discover a service record. It helps if you know exactly where they served or the unit. You could try:
The National Archives : The National Archives has a huge collection of records on the individuals who fought throughout Britain's military history.
The Veterans Agency : UK Government Agency
There is also an interesting article in ‘Britain at War’ magazine, issue 22 / Feb 2009 on the subject.
If you have traced your families service record and would like to let us know how you did it please contact me.
